Blackpink vs Aespa - Feature Image

Aespa has been smashing YouTube records since its debut, just like Blackpink. The striking resemblance between certain aspects of these two girl groups has provided a hot topic for K-pop fans.

Is Aespa the next Blackpink? Will Aespa beat blackpink? Is Aespa better than Blackpink? Is Blackpink copying Aespa, or is Aespa copying Blackpink? Here is the answer for the Blackpink vs. Aespa war going on the internet.

Disclaimer: No word of this article is written to hurt the sentiments of any BLINK or MY. It is a mere comparison of the achievements of both the girl groups from their debut till date.

Can Aespa Beat Blackpink?

Both the girl groups have four members. Blackpink – Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rose. Aespa – Karina, Giselle, Winter and Ningning. From singing and dancing to looks and charisma, each member of both groups is unparalleled.

So, the debate of “can Aespa beat Blackpink” is very difficult as both have their own specialties. Keeping in view the dedication of netizens to compare these two groups, here is a real contrast.

Both these groups are formed by the top entertainment companies in Korea, Blackpink by YG entertainment and Aespa by SM entertainment

The Debut And Records

Blackpink debuted in 2016 with Bombayah. Soon, Bombayah was on the top of the Billboard chart. Later, it became the first debut MV to surpass a billion views on Youtube.

Aespa debuted in 2020 with Black Mamba, which crossed 21 million views in 24 hours. Within 51 days, the official MV of Aespa’s debut crossed 100 million.

Regarding the other records, Blackpink is famous for breaking several records. Here is what they did in just a few years.

On the other hand, Aespa is also smashing records. However, they might not be able to showcase as much as records as Blackpink did, primarily for two reasons. Aespa came four years after Blackpink and faced a long lockdown because of Covid-19. But, they are unleashing their powers gradually.

Here is what they did even though they faced pandemic restrictions immediately after their debut.

The Concept

Every group loves playing with concepts and themes. However, one concept that caused great discussion among netizens was Aespa’s incline toward portraying the metaverse culture in music.

The MV of Aespa’s Dream Come True revolves around the metaverse concept. Besides, the latest collaboration between PUBG and Blackpink, Ready For Love, addresses a similar theme. Though it is difficult to notice the resemblance between the two MVs at first glance, a few screenshots from netizens can make you believe it.

Blackpink’s preferences are thought to be towards EDM from the start. So, seeing them doing the metaverse concept, especially when Aespa already did it, was incomprehensible to the fans.

Many fans said Blackpink copied Aespa, and many others said Aespa copied Blackpink. However, I would leave the final decision to your good judgment.

The Brand Race

Both girl groups are also performing brilliantly outside the music world. The individuality and style of Aespa members very inspired the creative director of Givenchy. Aespa became Givenchy’s global brand ambassador in Feb 2021.

On the other hand, Blackpink members also enjoy the luxury side of the industry by representing the most famous brands as global ambassadors. Lisa is the ambassador for Celine. Rosé is the ambassador for Saint Laurent. Jennie represents Chanel, and Jisoo is the global ambassador for Dior.

Blackpink vs Aespa Coachella

Out of numerous records of Blackpink, it was the first K-pop girl group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2019. Blackpink also did a world tour in 2018, considered one of the most remarkable world stours ever done by a K-pop girl group.

Coachella didn’t take place two years after the debut of Aespa. However, Aespa made its festival debut in 2022. The Coachella 2022 helped Aespa gain much recognition among US fans.

Is Aespa Better Than Blackpink – The Ultimate Answer For All The Fans

After Aespa’s Coachella performance, comments like “Aespa will never surpass Blackpink” started popping around social media. It is where the K-pop fans started comparing both groups harshly.

Arguments like Blackpink used a live band for backtrack and Aespa used pre-recorded instruments at Coachella were seen on the internet. Fans of both groups are trying hard to prove the group they stan is better than the other.

Though the answer to this question is subjective, I would like to offer some food for your thought. Art is not copied or replaced, art is a source of inspiration, and no one can snatch the authenticity of one’s art. So, stop stressing about Blackpink vs. Aespa because they both are better than each other in their way.
